When the Bible says make the most of every opportunity, I think of the Latin phrase, “Carpe Diem,” which means “seize the day.” The older I get, the more I have come to see that one of life’s deepest pains is the pain of regret. The way to combat regret is to seize the day and to make the most of every opportunity. Live a regret-free life. There is no better way to live. When it comes to your children, show up for them everyday emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Seize the day in your relationships. If you feel yourself drifting away from your spouse or your friends, find ways to reconnect today. Is there someone to whom you need to say, “I Love you,” “I’m sorry,” “I was wrong,” “Please forgive me” or “I forgive you”? Do it before it is too late. Life is unspeakably precious, and time is relentlessly short, so seize the day. Do what you need to today while you have the opportunity.
