Make sure you read the scripture before you read this devotional. Here is the scene. There is a Christian businessman who has developed his business plan for the year. He knows his target consumers, where they live, what the timetable is, what his profit goal is. There is nothing wrong with good planning and goal setting, but there is something missing in this business man’s plan. There is no mention of God. This guy knew what he wanted and figured he was smart enough to control the outcome to get what he desired. But as a Christian, he didn’t bother to check his plan out with God. He made a plan, and asked God to bless it. But he left God out of the planning, arrogantly boasting, “I’m in control. I’ve got it. I don’t need God’s help.” James said, “Who do you think you are? Do you think you know what might happen tomorrow? Do you think your will trumps God’s will?” Don’t forget that God is still the King of this place, and life’s true blessings come when we are walking in God’s plan instead of our plan. If you want to make today a special day, remember this: Don’t arrogantly tell God what you have planned, what you have decided to do, what you have worked out, and then ask God to bless your plan. Humbly ask God to help you to do what He wants to bless today.
