READ: Psalm 139:23-24
I don’t like to fly, but when I do fly I confess to you that, whenever the flight attendant is giving the safety instructions, I rarely listen. I just wonder what difference it is going to make if I know that my seat cushion can float. But there is one part of the instructions that the flight attendant gives that really causes me to think. It goes something like this, “Should there be a loss of air pressure in the cabin during our flight, an oxygen mask will automatically be released from your overhead compartment. Then they tell you how to put the mask on. And then they will say, “If you are travelling with a child, put your own mask on first, then place the mask on your child.” In other words, you have to breathe first before you can help somebody else breathe. Before you can make any effective changes in your marriage, relationships with your children, relationships with your mom and dad, with your boss, with your neighbor, or even with God, the first person you have to deal with is yourself. The Bible says, “Search my heart, O God, and if you find anything offensive in me, then lead me in the way of everlasting life.” You see, before you can make any effective changes in any relationships, you must first begin with yourself.
