People told me that when I retired that stress would melt away. They were right. Stress melted right out of my brain, trickled down into my middle, and it turn into fat! Seriously, stress, worry, and anxiety over school and jobs are things our Lord never intended our bodies and minds to carry. Worrying about a deadline, stressing over a grade, a new job, anxiety over something done or not done, staying consumed over something in the past or something in the future, all these are burdens Jesus tells us to ‘retire’ by giving them to Him. And when we argue, Jesus asks the impossible question, “Who can add an inch to his life (i.e. a minute to a deadline, an answer on a test, a dollar in the bank) by worrying?” We accomplish nothing positive when we worry. The opposite happens, the worry, stress, and anxiety affects our brains and trickles down until it upsets our stomach, gives us heart disease, and even causes certain cancers. The cure for worry is faith, faith that if you do your part, then that is all you can do. Now put the rest of the work in God’s hands and trust yourself to a Father God who loves you. The cure for stress is casting your burdens on the Lord. – Virginia Thompson
