Life is made up mostly of small things. It’s the seemingly insignificant that brings the greatest joy and sadness to our life. Life consists of days, minutes, and moments. It’s the moments of life that make us or break us. We can wake up feeling fine and someone says an unkind word to us and all of a sudden our whole world turns gray. The day can be dismal and some insignificant event like a smile, the laughter of a child, and all of a sudden our whole day becomes brighter. The older I get the less impressed I am with the big stuff. I realize the quality of my life is going to be determined by how I handle the tiny stuff. I’m not sure that God is too impressed with the big stuff either. God does some big things every now and then, some big miracles, and incredible acts of wonder, but most often God does God’s best work through the tiny things. We are always looking for God in the spectacular, but most often God speaks through the ordinary. Since the beginning of time, God chose the tiny over the large, David over Goliath, Gideon and his 300 soldiers over the Midianite army of thousands, Elijah over the 400 prophets of Baal, one sheep over the 99 sheep. Jesus was impressed with the power of the tiny. In fact, He said, “Just a tiny little bit of faith, not much faith at all, faith as small as a mustard seed, can move a mountain.” Don’t ever forget that there is power in the tiny.
