“God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” The very nature of love is to continuously give it away. My momma’s last couple of years were very difficult. She had lots of illnesses, heart trouble, lung problems, diabetes, and back pain. She lived on oxygen and medications. Because of the illnesses, pain, and pills, her personality began to change. Sometimes she was not the easiest person to deal with. My daddy loved my momma and took care of her. He cleaned up after her, cooked, cleaned the house, got up with her at night, dressed her wounds. It was hard, and never did my father complain. He just did what love does. He gave himself to her; he sacrificed his life for her good. He began to have some health problems and knew that something was wrong. He put off going to the doctor because momma needed him. After she died, he went to the doctor and had colon cancer. He died almost a year later. Looking back on that in a real way, he sacrificed his life so her life could be lived well to the end. The unconditional love of my daddy was great and inspiring to me, but it stills pales in comparison to the generous love of God. God so loved the world that He gave His only Son. Real love is amazing, and when you receive that love in your life, it changes who you are.
