From across a parking lot in Destin, Florida, last Saturday, I watched as a handful of young men stood at an intersection, obviously wanting to cross the road to get to the beach on the other side. They stood and stood and stood. The traffic was steady, and their frustration at not finding a break in traffic so they could cross was very apparent. I wanted so badly to yell to them, to tell them to push the button on the pole that was next to them. If they pushed the button, the light would change, and they could cross the street. It was a simple solution that was only a few feet away from them, yet they didn’t know. People are looking for happiness, searching for purpose, seeking meaning for their lives. They try all the “P” words like possessions, pleasure, popularity, power, and prestige. And those things bring a temporary feel good, but they don’t bring lasting satisfaction. The solution, the answer, the satisfaction, the contentment is within reach, but so many do not know it is there. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” Just push the button. Trust in Jesus. He is the source of life filled with satisfaction, contentment, and joy.
