Graduate learns that, with faith, nothing is impossible
Keryakias Quinn
“Before I came to Hope Inspired Ministries, I was a pot smoker, I was selling marijuana, I was always in the streets, I was a disrespectful young man, and I had a bad attitude. I used to let my anger control me. I was the type of person who got mad about anything that I didn’t like. I was a bad example to kids such as, my sisters, my little cousins, and people who looked up to me from young people to older people. Every day I woke up and said to myself, “I have to live a better life.” All of my childhood friends I grew up with graduated from high school and are now attending college. I had to think of a plan to make a better life, because, I thought, “I’ll either end up in jail or six feet under.”
I don’t want to go back to jail because jail isn’t fun. It’s a disaster. I must admit that I caught a felony marijuana possession, my 1st charge, March of 2013. I haven’t been to court or received any notices in the mail saying I have a court date, but I do keep in contact. I call more often now just in case.
Since I came to Hope Inspired Ministries a lot about me has changed.I didn’t realize how much until my mom and teachers told me. I’ve stopped smoking weed, selling drugs, clubbing, staying out all night and so on. During the 13 weeks at Hope Inspired Ministries I’ve learned that my attitude is everything and can take me a long way in life. I’ve learned to persevere through bad times, and to endure short-term pain for long-term gain. I’ve also learned to walk away from situations that may get me into trouble, and to stay around inspired, compassionate, wise, and trustworthy people. Now I like to play basketball and play on the computer.
I’m now doing an internship at Jones Brothers Roofing Company, which is a good place to work. It always has good feedback from customers, and every one there is a hard working employee. My main goal is to get more education. First I plan to earn my G.E.D. Then I hope to enroll in junior college where I want to walk on for basketball. Maybe then I can earn an athletic scholarship to a four year college. If that doesn’t work out I would like to be a sound engineer. I’m also still working on bettering my attitude.
I want to give thanks to my mom, my family, my friends, Mr. Michael, Ms. Leanne, Ms. Ashton, Mrs. Barbara, my mentor Mr. Lee, and my classmates (we all stuck together). Also, thank you to Denise Dukes, the speech therapist who helped us learn to speak better. I also would like to thank Jones Brothers Roofing for offering me an internship at their company. Special thanks go to Mr. Sherman, Mr. Gordon, Mr. Baker, and Mr. Robert. I also want to thank Mr. Michael once again for giving me chance after chance because he saw very much potential in me. Michael, I want to let you know I appreciate you for your help and guidance and for letting me stay in your program.
Hope Inspired Ministries is a good program for those who think it’s too late to get back on track. Words from me. “It’s never too late to get back on track.” In Matthew 17:20 Jesus said, “I tell you the truth. If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. NOTHING WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOU”.”
I would like more Info on The Hope Inspired Ministry. Does it or in any way with Alcoholics?
