In September of 2013 Ashley England and her family went out to eat with their son, 8 year old Riley. Riley has epilepsy and is non-verbal. He often screams and often acts out when he gets frustrated. At dinner Riley began to get frustrated and started to yell. Ashley was trying to calm him down. She could tell that it was bothering other patrons around her. And then a waitress appeared at their table with tears in her eyes and told the family a man had paid for their meal and had left a note. The note read, “God only gives special people to special people.” Ashley was moved to tears by that act and those words of kindness. She said she was so worn out trying to control her son’s outburst and that the simple act of kindness made the struggle so much easier. There is a good word in Isaiah 35: 3, “Strengthen those who have tired hands and encourage those who have weak knees.” Live today to strengthen and encourage someone who is struggling. God will add His blessings to your kindness and someone with tired hands and weak knees will be lifted up. The best way I know to make your day better – go out and make someone else’s day better.
