Jesus told the story about a woman with a chronic illness that made her considered unclean by everyone who knew her. She was not able to go to the Temple to worship God or associate with other people. One day Jesus came to town, and she was desperate. And so with just a little bit of faith, she reached out to touch Jesus, hoping that she could be healed. In the moment before she reached out to touch Him she was a nobody in her own eyes and in the eyes of her community. But the moment she reached outside herself to touch Jesus, all the downside of her life was turned upside. She was physically healed. Her touch caused Jesus to stop dead in His tracks. He was on the way to a house of a VIP and she was a nobody, but her touch caused Him to stop. Everyone was valuable to Jesus. He said, “Daughter, your faith has made you well.” He called her daughter. This is the only time that Jesus ever addressed a female by the term “daughter.” He could have used the term woman, lady, madam, or friend, but He called her daughter, a term of affection. He said to her, “You are special, a part of My family.” There are no nobodies in the Kingdom of God. Everyone is important. One of the worst sins is the sin of snobbery and prejudice. Don’t be a snob. We are all sinners loved by God.
