Since Christmas time, I have had a sore heel. I don’t know what I did to it, but it has really been hurting me. When Virginia saw me limping, she said for about a month, “Why don’t you go to the doctor.” I said, “Because it will get better.” Two weeks after that, Virginia heard me grunt as I walked down the stairs. She said, “Why don’t you just go to the doctor?” About four weeks ago, I could barely bend my foot and noticed that my knee was hurting. It seems I was changing the way I turned my foot when I walked so my heel wouldn’t hurt so bad. Finally, I went to the doctor. The doctor gave me what I needed to begin healing. What is it about us that we put off going to the doctor? It was only when I went to the doctor that healing could begin. Why is it that people put off going to God with their problems? We self-diagnose our troubles. We wait, thinking our troubles will go away. We adjust for them, and sometimes it only makes things worse. Listen, God wants us to come quickly to him when we are hurting. God wants us to pour out our troubles before him. Peter said, “Give all of your worries and cares to God. He cares about you.” Sometimes we go to God as a last resort, but we could save ourselves a lot of trouble if we would just go to God as our first resort. He knows the way. He brings the healing. He has the help that we need. .
