Virginia, when she was working at East Alabama Medical Center, had an exceptional boss who was very smart, wise, kind, fair, caring, and nurturing. She opened doors for her to the “corner office.” She introduced her to important people, and Virginia blossomed under her care. But when she retired, everything changed at her work. She did the same tasks, but her boss wasn’t there to encourage her, to say, “atta girl.” When she made a mistake, her boss wasn’t there to listen and console her and put her onher feet again. A year after her boss retired, she retired. It just wasn’t the same. You know we have a boss, a Heavenly Boss, who is smart, wise, kind, caring, and nurturing, and He never retires. He forgives us for every sin, picks us up when we fall, and puts us on our feet again. He has opened the door for us, a doorway to Heaven. He brings just the right people to us, at just the right time. He watches us blossom under His care, and the inner joy and satisfaction that comes from working for our Heavenly Boss is far better than any bonus check or earthly “atta boy.” He taught us how to perfectly blend our heavenly and earthly work. Remember, “Everything you do, do it as if you were working for the Lord.”
