New believers anxious to share the Gospel with former neighbors, family in Burma
Hello from the Turman family,
It has been unusually cold here the past few weeks, just as it has been for you in America, too. It has gotten down into the low 40’s at night. I know that doesn’t sound too cold, but since there are no heaters in the houses it’s hard to stay warm!
Last update, we mentioned that we would be going into Burma/Myanmar in the near future. It looks like some of us will go the first part of March and the rest of us will go the end of March. Burma has been a closed country, ruled by the military for almost 60 years. Up until a year or so ago, it was all but impossible to go into the country without a government escort. We will be able to openly go and share the Gospel in several villages that are home to some of the new believers we teach.
The first village we will go to is Bago, where GoWin and GeeBeeyar are from. I asked them the other day if they ever saw a Westerner in their village. They said only one time. They said that when they lived there, there were no Christians and none ever came there to share the Gospel.
We will then go to GoMoWin’s home village, GyawGyi. When he was growing up there, he never knew any Christians and never heard the message of Christ. These new believers are broken hearted for their former neighbors who have never had a chance to hear the Good News. They began asking several months ago if we would consider coming with them to share Christ in their home towns. It is amazing how God has opened these doors for us!
Suzan and NyiNyi will be able to stay in the villages but we will have to stay in a hotel in Rangoon and hire a car to take us to the villages daily. It is against the law for a non-Burmese citizen to stay in a Burmese home overnight.
Please pray that we will all be bold and loving toward those we share with. Pray that the Holy Spirit will begin to work in these villages before we arrive and that hearts will be opened to hear the Gospel. Pray for the funds needed for travel and accomodations. We are so thankful for this opportunity to go and share the good news, and for your participation with us that makes it all possible!
