READ: II CORINTHIANS 2:14-16
Did you know that smell sells? They call it ‘fragrance marketing.’ Select smells can cause you to buy more, borrow more, or stay in the mall longer. That new car smell is sure attractive. The smell of fresh-baked bread can help your house sell. The smell of apple spice can stop panic attacks. Nike discovered that people will pay more for their shoes with a floral scent in the air. That’s fascinating. Fragrance marketing.
In II Corinthians, Paul says that we are to have the “aroma of Christ” about us. Do we have the smell of the love of Jesus? It is like when you have shaken the hand or hugged someone and then you can’t get their scent off of you. Have you ever been in a room after someone left but you can still smell them? At home, at the ballpark, at the beauty parlor, at work, at the mall— when you leave, have you left the aroma of Jesus there? When we have the smell of the fruit of the Spirit, the smell of love, the smell of joy, of peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, generosity, faithfulness, mercy, forgiveness, grace, compassion, and humility, we will be leaving the aroma of Christ wherever we are. Be a fragrance for Christ today.
