READ: PHILIPPIANS 1:7-9
I like going to garage sales. You never know what treasure you might find in another person’s junk. At one sale a few years back, I came upon a box filled with trophies and awards, mostly for athletic accomplishments. The thought crossed my mind, “Who in the world would want to buy someone else’s awards and trophies?” I also thought, that person who won those awards probably worked long and hard to win them. But now they are in the junk pile because they no longer have value.
Shel Silversteen’s poem “Hector the Collector” describes all of the things Hector collected over the years. He “loved them more than shining diamonds, Loved them more than glistening gold. Then Hector called his friends and said, ‘Come and share my treasure trunk. And all the people came and looked and called it junk.’ ”
Don’t ever forget that, when you come to the end of your life, most of the things that we have will be boxed up, stored away, or sold in a garage sale. Paul said, “I have found that everything I had didn’t amount to much. I found that what really matters is my relationship with Jesus Christ.” Our greatest riches are the riches that we have in Christ.
