READ: JOHN 3:16
I’ve always liked the story of the little boy who was asked on the Saturday before Christmas to polish his mother’s shoes. As usual, she was in a rush job to get everything done. After a while he brought down the shoes, proud of the job he had done. His mother was so pleased that she reached in her purse and gave him a dollar. He took the money, picked up the shoes, and went upstairs. In a few minutes his mother rushed to change clothes. As she slipped into the shiny shoes, her right foot hit a lump in the toe. Annoyed, she reached in and pulled out a wadded up dollar bill with a piece of paper attached. Written in seven-year old script were the words, “I didn’t do it for a dollar. I done it for love.”
The most precious gift of all is the gift of love; to be cared for, to be loved unconditionally, to know that someone will always be there for you. At Christmas, we hear the words of the most well-known of Bible verses, John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that everyone who believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus is the precious gift of unending, unconditional, life-saving love. Remember today how loved you are by God.
