READ: John 12:26
How can I grow closer to God? I get asked that a lot. The first step is that you have to want to grow closer. You have to want to grow spiritually. Jesus said in John 12:26, “Anyone who wants to be my disciple must follow me.” You do not grow closer to God, deepen you faith, or find His joy in your soul by accident. Spiritual growth is intentional. The first step is wanting to grow. It is your choice. You will be as close to God as you want to be. I heard an old preacher once say, “If you ain’t as close to God as you want to be or use to be, it ain’t God who moved.” You are as close to God as you choose to be. Once you choose to grow closer to God, then spend time with Jesus, and then just do what Jesus did. You will meet God. What did Jesus do? He worshipped, He prayed, He obeyed God’s word, He served unselfishly, He shared good news with others, and He lived and loved and gave generously and sacrificially. Are you as close to God as you want to be? Spend time with Jesus and do what He did.
