READ: MATTHEW 7:9-11
At 1:00 a.m. last Sunday the phone rang. It was my daughter, on her way back home from her job as a nurse at East Alabama Medical Center. She said, “Daddy, I need your help. My car is broken down on the interstate.” I didn’t say, “Look, I have to preach three times tomorrow, and I need my sleep. Call somebody else.” I didn’t say, “Figure it out yourself.” No, because of the love I have for my daughter, I jumped up and raced out of my driveway to respond to her cry for help. If my children are in need and they call on me, I am always going to respond. The Bible says that God is the same way with His children—with you and me. When we come before Him with our cries for help, God doesn’t blow us off, ignore us, or say, “Figure it out yourself.” God sends His help. Sometimes His help comes through the wisdom of His word; sometimes in the voices, directions, and actions of others; sometimes in the comforting presence of His Holy Spirit. All I know is that when you call on your heavenly Father, He will always respond. I love the words of Jesus, who said, “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask Him.”
