READ: I THESSALONIANS 5:11
Thanksgiving is appreciation. The word, appreciate, literally means to raise the value. When something appreciates, like stock or houses, it rises in value. When you depreciate something it loses its value. This is true not only of things but of people. When you appreciate someone by telling someone ‘thank you,’ you literally raise their value. And the real truth is that when you lift someone else’s spirit, you raise your own spirit.
I Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.” You do that when you express appreciation and say thank you. Rick Warren wrote, “Give people flowers while they can still smell them. A single rose now is better than an entire wreath at the funeral.” Never pass up the opportunity to say thank you, to pass on a compliment, to tell someone how much you appreciate him. You will make his day and, in the process of lifting someone else, you will end up with a new spring in your step and a smile on your face. Who do you need to show appreciation to? Who do you need to thank?
